I bet you're wondering, do wooden wick candles really live up to all the hype?
My short answer is absolutely! I figure since you’re reading this though, you may be looking for a little more info. So here we go.
As a candlemaker, I started off with cotton wicks as most do but it didn’t take long to notice how quickly they burned and the large amount of soot that they produced. Yuck. And so, the search began for a cleaner and longer-lasting solution.
Pretty quickly, I discovered wooden wicks in all their glory. They burned slower, cleaner and were a sustainably-sourced material. It was my AH-HAH moment!
So let’s delve a little deeper into what makes wooden wicks the best thing since sliced bread.
What They Are
Thin slabs of wood crafted specifically for use in candles. At Blue Magnolia, we only use wooden wicks sourced from FSC-certified mills right here in the USA. All wood is sustainably-sourced through eco-friendly operations.
Ambiance - Wooden wicks emit a beautiful light crackling sound like that of a lit fireplace. This has been known to create a calming atmosphere that promotes relaxation.
Scent Throw - Wooden wicks diffuse heat more rapidly into the wax at lower temperatures than cotton wicks. This is due to wooden wicks being thin and wide versus cotton wicks which are tall and thick. This design allows the wood to slowly smolder and heat the wax more thoroughly which gives off a much larger fragrance aroma in the surrounding air.
Longevity - Wooden wick candles produce a smoldering effect which consumes candle wax at a much slower rate. Plain and simple, this means your favorite candle will be around longer than the alternatives providing proper care is taken.
Cleaner Burning - One of the first things you will notice after burning your first wooden wick candle is the reduced soot and smoke. Wooden wicks are exactly what they say they are - wood. I commit to only using minimally-processed wooden wicks to ensure a safe and clean burn for my customers.
So, did I talk you into your first wooden wick candle? I sure hope so!
